Throughout my career, I have been very focused on using my business knowledge to achieve social well-being. Early on, I realized that finding a job is the very best way to ensure the dignity and comfort of individuals and families.
The problem is that for some people, finding a job is tougher than for others. If you are disabled, newly arrived or young and inexperienced, it can be daunting to find employment.
The financial crises of the last few years have left many businesses gun-shy and reluctant to hire. Investing to make the workplace accessible and inclusive can be a tough sell if employers have never realized how much value disabled employees can bring to the table.
In my years at RBC I worked hard on this issue and my colleagues and I reaped many rewards. We were able to pioneer new solutions and to create a welcoming workplace where disabled staff could achieve their potential – a win-win situation for all. I look forward to bringing this experience to the table as the Liberal MP for Toronto Centre.
